Abstract The Nonmetallic inclusions in hot forging structure steels during LF refining of which T[O] was less than 0.0010%,were investigated. It was found that, with high basicity slag and strong diffusion deoxidation, the high Al2O3 inclusions formed by Al deoxidation were transformed into magnesium and calcium aluminates. For the steels with T[O] below 0.0010% after VD degassing, it was difficult to find oxide inclusions in the steel. In high clean hot forging steels, many combined inclusions were found, in which, the central part was MnS, while the edge parts was TiN precipitated on the existed MnS particles.
