Effect of slab reheating processes on microstructure and properties for heavy gauge pipeline steel |

Abstract In order to improve strength and toughness for heavy gauge pipeline steel,by using the way of physical simulation,pilot rolling and SEM,EBSD analysis,the coarsenning characteristics,the effect of slab reheating parameters on mechanical properties and microstructure were studied for 30 mm X65 pipeline steel,emphasized on the analysis of the strengthening and toughening mechanisms. The results show that,with increasing the reheating temperature,the initial austenite grain size tends to coarse and the microstructure of trial steel changed from the fine ferrite to bainite dominated,which induce higher strength and lower charpy impact energy and DWTT shear area ratio. With increasing the soak time,there is no obvious change for strength,DWTT shear area and microstructure,however,the chary impact energy increase for high reheating temperature while decrease for low reheating temperature. EBSD analysis shows that the grain coarsening reduces the charpy impact energy,and increasing the proportion of high-angle grain boundary promotes the DWTT performance.
