Abstract Hotdip galvanized strip steel is the main raw material for highlevel automotive panels, users have high requirements for surface quality control. The galvanized strip of the Shougang hotdip galvanizing line has uneven distribution of roughness of the top and bottom surfaces, which shows that the roughness of the bottom surface of the strip is higher than that of the bottom surface. A large number of field experiments and theoretical studies were conducted. According to the analysis, the asymmetry factor of the skinpass process is the main cause of the surface defects of the galvanized strip. The nonlinear finite element software ABAQUS is used as the simulation platform to establish a twodimensional temper rolling finite element model. The causes of surface defects of galvanized strip steel are verified by asymmetric simulation calculation, and some improvement measures are proposed, including optimization of temper rolling forcetension ratio and the level adjustment of the auxiliary rolls. These measures have satisfactorily solved the surface quality problem of the galvanized strip steel, and the research results have reference significance for production practice.
