Industrial practice of M2 high speed steel by curved type continuous casting and rolling process

Abstract:In order to solve the problems of M2 high speed steel wire produced by the traditional long process including ingot casting and multi-heating forging or rolling, such as low efficiency, low productivity, high cost, high energy consumption, low quality stability, etc.The difficulties of poor pouring ability, strong crack sensitivity, poor plasticity of steel billet and controlling carbide size had been overcame. The curved continuous casting billets with 150 mm×150 mm were produced via commercial curved continuous casting machine and followed by continuous wire rod rolling mill.The wire rods with ø11 mm show finer carbide size and more homogeneous carbide distribution then that of traditional long process. In the industrial production, the successful practice of the short process of M2 high speed steel wire is of great significance to the optimization of the process flow.
