Abstract Based on a 5-rolls withdraw and straighten machine, the straighten principle and the effect of straight on billet are analyzed. The result show that： the cast speed should be control less than 2.6m/min on same steel grade sensitive about crack for the strand has liquid core when it is straighten. Although the 5-rolls withdraw and straighten machine is 2 point straight the billet but the billet is smoothly straightened. During the straighten process the deformation rate is deeply small, it can reach the similar straighten effect and get high quality billet in productive process.
