Abstract

The hot compression of an eutectoid pearlite steel at 700 ℃ was simulated with finite element method (FEM) at a strain rate from 0.1 to 100 s-1. The distribution of efficient strain and strain rate in axial section of deformed samples was analyzed. The coincident region of practical with set conditions was determined and approved by metallographic examination. The results indicate that the efficient strain and strain rate are higher by about 40% than in the center of deformed samples, but are about 1/5~1/4 of set values at the end surface; The practical strain and strain rate accord with the set values at 2/53/5 distance from the end surface to the center of deformed sample, and the consistency between practical and set values is reached at 1/2 distance from the end surface to the center.
