Abstract

The numerical simulation method was employed to study the effect of different bottom blowing locations on fluid flow and decarburization process in vacuum degasser. The numerical results indicated that the double bottom blowing is the most effective method for decarbonization, the eccentric bottom blowing has a minor effect, and the centric bottom blowing is the poorest method. For the eccentric bottom blowing, the decarbonization efficiency is the highest and the terminal carbon concentration falls down to 39ppm when the eccentric distance of bottom blowing location is between 0.4R~0.5R. For double bottom blowing, the decarbonization efficiency is the highest and the terminal carbon concentration falls down to 25ppm when the eccentric distance of bottom blowing location is between 0.5R~0.65R. Furthermore, the terminal carbon concentration on the condition of double bottom blowing is 18~45 percent lower than that on the condition of eccentric bottom blowing.
