Abstract:Oxide scale on BRC3 hotrolled steel strip was investigated by scan electronic microscopy and Xray diffraction. The results showed that oxide scale consists of outmost hematite layer, intermediate magnetite layer and inner wustite layer. And a small amount of magnetite precipitates in wustite layer. During hightemperature reduction, all iron oxides are entirely transformed into wustite, then reduced by carbon monoxide. Finally a composite of white porous iron and some grey wustite is formed. It was found that the optimum parameters of reduction were:temperature was 750 ℃,carbon monoxide flow rate was 3 L/min and reaction time was 180 s.And the higher carbon monoxide flow rate, the higher reduction rate is.
