Abstract:According to the technical idea of iron nugget production by reduction and melting separation of ore-coal composite pellets with low carbon ratio at low temperature, distribution and behavior of sulfur in melting separation process of ore-coal composite pellets was investigated experimentally. The results show that the important factor to effect on sulfur content of iron nuggets are sulfur contents of carbonaceous padding and raw materials of pellets and residence time of iron nuggets in the furnace. In order to decrease sulfur content of iron nuggets, it is necessary to limit sulfur amount in coal powder and iron ore.To select carbonaceous padding with low sulfur content and to shorten residence time of iron nuggets in the furnace, the addition of sulfur fixation agent to carbonaceous padding is in favor of the decrease of sulfur in iron nuggets. Desulfuration effect of CaO addition in pellet is not clear, on the contrary, increase sulfur content of iron nuggets. The increase of carbon ratio in pellets result in increase sulfur amount in pellets, therefore increase sulfur content of iron nuggets.
