Abstract:Recently a lot of efforts have been addressed on the improvement in steel making and continuous casting to produce clean high strength low alloy steels at WISCO. The special operation mode with independent property was established. The steel plates produced exhibit high stability of properties. A new 600 MPa large heat input HSLA steel in with low susceptibility to welding cracking was developed. The mechanical properties and microstructure of the base steel and the simulated heat affected zone were investigated. The results showed that the steel exhibites high strength, high impact toughness and good weldability. Further more, the steel can be welded with high heat input without preheating and post weld heat treatment.
