Abstract:Based on experience of thin slab casting at Tangshan Steel,the application of thermal imaging figure of mould to predicting and controlling longitudinal crack of thin slab was analyzed. Besides,the factors affecting longitudinal cracking of thin slab were studied such as use of protecting slag, casting speed, degree of superheat, etc. And the corresponding control measures were put forward. The rate of longitudinal cracking of thin slab at Tangshan Steel was reduced largely.It was shown that making parameters of process and equipment appropriate and steady is the basic condition to reduce longitudinal cracks of thin slab. On the base of temperature uniformity displayed by thermal imaging figure of mould,the longitudinal cracking of thin slab can be predicted.Then, uniformity in heat transfer can be eliminated by changing mould taper. And, effective control of longitudinal cracking of thin slab can be realized.
