Abstract:The methods and key process problems of hot metal desulphurization with Mgbased reagents are discussed in detail, according to thermodynamics and kinetics and combining with hot metal desulphurization technology at Baosteel. The desulphurization efficiency are influenced greatly by reagent injection rate, lance position, lance design, temperature and etc. The problems are brought forward. The methods are given to solve these problems. Most of injected magnesium are vaporized and oxidized,only a small part of magnesium is used to desulphurize hot metal. At same time, the properties of desulphurization slag are deteriorated by formation of MgO.
