EBSD sample preparation and characterization method of oxide scale on the surface of hot-rolled steel strip

Abstract:In order to obtain an EBSD sample preparation method suitable for oxide scale on the surface of hot-rolled steel strips, the oxide scale generated on the surface of 22MnB5 hot-rolled sheet was selected as the research object. The surface EBSD scanning effects of hot-rolled sheet strip under three sample fixture methods (i.e., cold mounting, hot mounting and clamp clamping) and two sample preparation methods (i.e., vibration polishing and manual sample preparation) were compared. The results showed that the hot mounting method was the most suitable fixing method for polishing the surface of hot-rolled strip steel with oxide scale. Both vibration polishing and manual sample preparation methods could characterize the microstructures (such as morphology, phase composition and grain size) of oxide scale on the surface of hot-rolled steel strip. The manual sample preparation method proposed could shorten the sample preparation time and cost while ensuring the sample preparation effect.
