Abstract:Aiming at the unqualified batch cracking of upset of 35CrMoA hot-rolled round steel produced by a factory, some detection methods including optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and energy disperse spectroscopy were employed to analyze the reasons for cracking. The results showed that the main reason for upset cracking was the existence of large inclusions in the base metal, which were mainly from the slag in smelting and continuous casting process. By improving the purity of steel, optimizing the LF refining process, increasing the viscosity of the mold slag, and optimizing the flow field in crystallizer, the inclusion content in 35CrMoA round steel could be effectively reduced. Consequently, the qualification rate of upset forging of the round steel was improved.
