Abstract:The analysis of CSP mold with EMBr at HANDAN iron and steel corp.showed that 40% reduction of total oxygen and 61% reduction of macroinclusions can be realized and the quality of thin slabs can be improved effectively by EMBr. The experiments indicated that the range of level fluctuation of molten steel surface in the mold without EMBr is ±7mm and ±4 mm with EMBr.The threedimensional mathematical flow field and electromagnetic field models were developed to analyze the flow field in CSP mold by CFX software. Theoretical calculation showed that the maximum surface velocity at the center of meniscus with EMBr is 4 times lower than that without EMBr. The maximum turbulant kinetic energy at the center of meniscus with EMBr is also 3 times less than that without EMBr. The quality of thin slabs can be improved effectively by EMBr.
