Practice of Using MULPIC Cooling Device in Development of High Grade Steel

Abstract:The MULPIC online cooling device in heavy plate mill of Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. is endowed with high cooling rate. The ship plate, pipeline steel is developed by means of the controlled rolling and online accelerated cooling processes, and high strength engineering steel is researched and produced with direct quenching. The results are as follows: The microstructure is ferrite and pearlite, grain size is grade 10 of ASTM and -40 ℃ Charpy transverse toughness is above 183 J of the developed E36 ship plate by TMCP, the thickness of which is 60 mm. The microstructure is acicular ferrite and the qualified ratio is 98% in the developed X70 pipeline steel. The high strength steel W960D with the thickness of 30 mm is produced by the direct quenching and off line temper process with 960 MPa yield strength, 1030 MPa tensile strength and -20 ℃ Charpy longitudinal toughness above 45 J.
