Abstract:Water model experiments were taken to install proper flow control devices for a slab continuous casting tundish. Cases of “weir + dam” were optimized by orthogonal experiments. The results show that there are short circuit flow and large dead volume in the tundish without flow control devices. Case 3 can obviously improve the flow field, which lengthens the average residence time, makes dead volume decrease, plug volume increase. Furthermore, the flow is close to the surface when case 3 is used, which is helpful for inclusion removal.
