High-Carbon Steel Continuous Casting Technology in Thin-Slab Process
Considering the characteristics of FTSC thin-slab process and the performance of high-carbon steel such as its hot ductility, low superheat was used, the composition of cast flux was optimized and the secondary cooling intensity was strengthened during the CC technology design. With the new techniques the surface entrapped slag, lamination and inside cracks were controlled.

Improving Mold Oscillation Marks Depth by Means of Vibration Modes of Oscillation
Abstract:In the mold of sinusoidal vibration, the depth of 250mm slab depth of oscillation marks in thickness is deep, the best non-sinusoidal vibration parameters have been found after testing three kinds of non-sinusoidal vibration modes; the minimum depth of the slab oscillation mark is 0.16 mm under the condition of optimized non-sinusoidal vibration mode. Carbon steel will influence the depth of oscillation marks by influencing the steel high-temperature impact strength; With the increasing of slab casting speed, the oscillation marks will be reduced. The mould power and other factors will be considered for the selection of mold oscillation mode and parameter.

Simulation Investigation of Nozzle for Twin-Roll Strip Casting Process
Abstract:Mathematical simulation was carried out to investigate application of two sub-merged nozzles of CC process in twin-roll strip casting flow distribution system by FLUENT software. The ratio of outlet area to inlet area of nozzle (S),the angle between center line of outlet and horizontal direction (α) and the level distance between two nozzles (L) on metal stream distribution uniformity and level fluctuation in distributor were analyzed .The results show that the effect of α is significant while the effect of S and L are not. The optimal structural parameters of nozzle were found when α value was 0°,L value was 800 mm and S value is 1.1.

Modeling on Fluid Flow and Thermal Distribution in Multi-Strand T-Tundish
Abstract:A full scale numerical model was established to calculate the fluid flow and temperature distribution in two different tundishes based on that used in a plant. By comparing the molten steel velocity and the temperature difference among different SENs, the optimal tundish design was obtained and theoretical base for continuous casting production was provided.

Numerical Simulation of Inclusions Movement During Solidification of Continuous Cast Slab
Abstract:A 3-D mathematical model for fluid flow, solidification and inclusions movement in continuous casting is built based on CFD. Influence of solid shell on fluid flow and inclusions movement is studied by considering the SEN configuration and the slab curvature. The inclusions floating rate and distribution in slab are obtained. The results indicate that the solidification is an important factor for the fluid flow. The length of re-circulation region in the strand with solidification is shorter than that without solidification, because the solidified shell would hinder downward flow of fluid. The fluid moves toward the slab center along the solid shell after it flows out of the lower re-circulation region. The inclusions floating rate with solidification is higher than that without solidification.

Intermediate Crack Analysis and Control Practice of FTSC Thin-Slab
Abstract:The causes of intermediate crack generated in the Tonggang FTSC thin-slab of SS400 whose cross-section is 1250×72 were analyzed. The defects ratio of SS400 was effectively controlled by optimization of reduction end point of the segment, the rolling reduction of the segment entry and export, the secondary cooling water; changing the segments with rollers which do not rotate on time and removing scale between segment rollers to decrease torsion of pinch rolls.
