Analysis on Reasons of Breakout in Heavy-Gauge Slab Continuous Caster
The reasons for the breakout of the heavy-gauge slab continuous caster are found by analyzing the information of breakout accidents in the heavy-gauge slab continuous casting process at a domestic steelmaking plant. The production practice shows that the main factors leading to breakout include uneven heat transfer in the mould, ill-performance of slag, mould level fluctuation, and improper operation etc. And the control and improved measures are put forward to prevent the breakout effectively, which has achieved good results.

FEM Simulation for Temperature and Thermal Stress Field of Chamfering-Mold
Development and application for chamfering-mold has been carried out in order to control the corner transverse crack defect of continuous casting slab effectively and steadily and the satisfactory effect has been acquired. By means of ANSYS FEM software, taking 250mm×2000mm continuous casting slab as object, the temperature field of chamfering-mould of different dimensions, thermal stress field of right-angle-mold and 35mm×35mm chamfering-mold have been calculated. The calculation results show that the lowest temperature of chamfered part reached 918℃ when the chamfer dimension is 35mm×35mm, the minimum temperature of the corner from high temperature tensile curve of the high temperature side is gradually separated from the brittle zone; comparing with rectangular-slab, the chamfering-slab corner stress concentration is completely eliminated. So if the chamfering-mold used the maximum z stress of slab is reduced by 19.2%, transverse corner crack occurrence possibility will be greatly reduced.

Water Modeling Experiment of Slab Immersion Nozzle Optimization
For the sake of improving the flow field in the mould, physical modeling method is used to research the flow field in the mould for sectional width 200mm×1800mm based on a steel works. Then the study of optimization of the nozzles’ structure and technical parameters was made. The results show that: 1) Casting speed, the shape of the exit, bottom shape of the nozzle, immersion depth, oblique angle of the nozzle exit and area radio of the exit have great influence over the flow field in the mould. When doing the study of optimization, the above should be considered. 2) In the laboratory, the optimum nozzles’ structure parameters is that the oblique angle of the nozzle exit is 15°, area radio of the exit is 2.0, the shape of the exit is racetrack, bottom shape of nozzle is flat-bottom. Considering of the real production, the immersion depth is considered to be 125mm and casting speed is 1.45m/min.

Application of Soft-Reduction Technology on Continuously Cast Slab in Lianyuan Steel
The soft-reduction effect appears poor when it’s adopted in the No.1 caster of Lianyuan Steel with both center porosity and center segregation, whose class are as high as 2.0. Through the nail shooting test, it’s found that the actual length of liquid core is about 1.6-4.2m shorter than what is calculated by model, so the parametric correction was done on caster’s prediction of solidification end. In addition, soft reduction parameters for normal and abnormal casting condition were defined on the basis of fundamental roll gap. The optimized soft-reduction lowered the rank of center porosity and center segregation to class 0.5, and the C and Mn content in different positions of slab’s cross section are very homogeneous, which meet the process requirement.

Track Simulation Analysis for Hydraulic Crystallizer Oscillation Equipment of a Full Arc Continuous Caster
A method of applying multi-rigid-body to simulate the track of a crystallizer without taking account of elastic deformation of the crystallizer oscillation equipment was introduced. Then the simulated movement of the track is compared with the curvature of continuous caster’s segments in order to confirm the track error.

Technology and Application of Electric Cylinder Non-Sinusoidal Oscillation of Slab Continuous Casting Mould
The structure and oscillation model of the mould oscillation device are summarized. And the current problems, improved scheme and content of mould oscillation device in Ningbo Steel are introduced as well. Sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal oscillation curves of the mould are analyzed in detail. In the mean time, the composition, advantages, working principal and technology parameter of mould electric cylinder oscillation system are introduced. Finally, the application effect in Ningbo Steel is also presented.

Numerical Simulation of Molten Steel Flow Field in Wide-Slab Continuous Casting Mold
Based on the basic theory of fluid mechanics, according to the structure and parameters of the mould for slab continuous casting, the k-ε turbulence model of the commercial software fluent was used to realize the three-dimensional mathematical simulation of molten steel in mold. The effects of technological parameters such as nozzles shape, submerged depth of nozzles, side-hole angle and the casting speed, on the mold steel flow field are emphatically investigated. Results showed that for 2300mm×250mm slab mold, flow field was better when the submerged depth of nozzles was 150mm, side-hole angle was under 15° and the casting speed was 1.2m/min.The numerical results provide a theoretical basis for the wide-slab continuous casting mole to determine a reasonable process parameters.

Countermeasures for Reducing Breakout Rate of Slab Continuous Casting
The breakout mechanism of slab casting was introduced, and according to different types of breakout, the reason has been analyzed. In order to reduce the slab casting breakout rate, the detailed countermeasures have been developed on technology, operation, equipment and management in every process of steelmaking, refining and continuous casting. And through the implementation of various countermeasures, good application effects were achieved and the breakout rate was 0 from January 2012 to August 2012.

Solidification Characteristics and Slab Quality of 40Cr of Bloom Caster
Solidification characteristics of 40Cr 410mm×530mm alloy steel bloom caster produced in the New Yegang Co Ltd was studied by means of pin shooting and acid leaching test. Online dynamic secondary cooling water and soft reduction system were calibrated by test result. The test result showed pin shooting test combined with offline transfer mathematical model on the bloom solidification could revise online dynamic secondary cooling water and soft reduction system effectively and optimze secondary cooling water and soft reduction technology. Finally inner slab quality was improved significantly.

80 Steel Surface Depression Analysis and Preventive Measures
Causes for surface indentations of 80 steel were analyzed and reasonable precautions were put forward. It is pointed out that changes of chemical composition, pouring temperature, casting speed, water, slag etc. can only weaken the surface indentations. Only by adjusting crystallizer water jacket, water gap, vibration level, can the surface indentation can be resolved completely. When the surface depression disappeared after the breakout, corner crack also disappeared and billet quality is guaranteed.
