Electromagnetic stirring techniques for continuous casting in china have ranked the world forefront
The process of continuous casting with EMS technology of China was reviewed briefly in this paper. Maintenance of billet continuous casting F-EMS, the slab continuous casting with high thrust roller EMS and the innovation of the multipolar wide slab M-EMS proved that the continuous casting with EMS technology in our country had headed the world.

State of the art of numerical simulation of magneto-hydro dynamics in the continuous casting process
In this paper, the state of the art of numerical simulation of magneto-hydro dynamics (MHD) in the continuous casting (CC) process is reviewed. A new numerical approach for solving the low-frequency MHD is introduced and its applications in the In-mold rotary electromagnetic stirring for a bloom caster, the electromagnetic braking for a CSP thin slab caster and the In-roll type S-EMS for a slab caster are given. The mathematical approach includes an electromagnetic model and a flow analysis model. The magnetic induction equation is used to account for the coupling between the flow model and the magnetic field model. The results show that the proposed approach can be used to describe the three-dimensional electromagnetic field distribution and the electromagnetically driven flow characteristics in the CC process and optimize the stirring and operation parameters. Finally, the future tendency of numerical simulation of magneto-hydro dynamics in the continuous casting process is suggested.

Experimental study of effect of roll type S-EMS frequency on quality of slabs
Effect of roll type S-EMS frequency on quality of slabs was investigated. Stirring frequencies chosen in this experiment respectively were 5,6,7,8 and 9 Hz. Experimental results showed that the central equiaxed zone ratios of the slabs were increased with EMS frequency from 5 Hz to 8 Hz and the same other technological parameters. The central equiaxed zone ratios of the slabs were decreased with EMS frequency from 8 Hz to 9 Hz. When EMS frequency was 8 Hz,the central equiaxed zone ratios was maximized, and the central porosity and the central segregation were respectively controlled at level 0.5 and below C1.5, so the compactness and homogeneity of the solidification structure of the slab were enhanced. The electromagnetic force didn’t change monotonously with the change of frequency in the S-EMS of the slab. It had a maximum value. The location of the best frequency was related with slab thickness, molten steel conductivity, liquid core size , stirrer parameters etc.

Effects of rotating electromagnetic stirring on as-cast microstructure of 1Cr13 stainless steel
The effect of electromagnetic stirring (EMS) on the as-cast microstructure of 1Cr13 martensite stainless steel was investigated in experiment. The results showed that in the ingot without EMS, there are mainly columnar crystals, interdendritic bridging at the center, center cavity and rarefaction. The reasonable parameters of EMS can promote the solidification feeding. In this experiment, the parameters of current 250 A and frequency 12 Hz with EMS for 60 seconds after the ingot had solidified for 90 seconds, which can promote the solidification feeding, increase the ratio of equiaxed crystal and improve the quality of the ingot. The carbon and the chromium in the ingot were better distributed with the EMS, which could markedly reduce the degree of microsegregation.

Study on numerical simulation of electromagnetic stirring in continuous casting mold and optimization of parameters
A three-dimensional mathematical model was established in present work. It was used to calculate the fluid flow in the mold under electromagnetic stirring force. The flow structure and distribution characteristics under different continuous casting parameters and stirring electric current were studied. Based on the calculation results, the Mold Flux Entrapment Index (MFEI) of free surface and Velocity Uniform Index (VUI) in continuous casting mold were proposed to evaluate the stirring effect of flow field, and the optimization method of electromagnetic stirring parameters was suggested.

Application?and?optimization of high-thrust roller strand electromagnetic stirrer for electrical steel plate
The method combined finite element analysis with experiment measurement were used to study the optimum stirring parameters, the stirring parameters modifications according to the variation of the thickness of the casting slab and the metallurgical effect. The results show that the optimum stirring parameters of the high thrust roller strand electromagnetic stirrer (S-EMS) for the slab thickness of 230 mm are current of 500 A and frequency of 7 Hz. Applied the same roller S-EMS to different slab thicknesses of the casting blank, and in order to achieve good metallurgical effects, the current and the frequency will need to increase linearly and decease gradually each, as the thickness of the casting slab increases. The metallurgical effects of using the products indicates that the application of high thrust roller S-EMS can significantly improve the solidified structure of the casting slab, and increase the equiaxed crystal ratio.

Research on magnetic field characteristic of electromagnetic stirrer for round caster
The magnetic field and twisting moment of mold electromagnetic stirrer (M-EMS)、final electromagnetic stirrer(F-EMS) for round billet were measured by CST-11A Digital Tesla meter and Torque Meter. The magnetic field distribution of direction in the mold was summarized. The relations of magnetic field and twisting moment with current and frequency were analyzed. The results showed that the electromagnetic force is proportional to the square of magnetic flux density, the frequency is inversely related to magnetic flux density; maximum magnetic flux density along axis of mold appears at 900 mm away from the upper, and then fall dramatically in both sides; distribution of magnetic flux density unevenly distributes along radius of mold, gradually decreases from the inner surface to the center; high frequency passed through mold attenuates more. Twisting moment of both M-EMS and F-EMS increases with current and frequency; twisting moment of M-EMS increases with frequency more slowly than current; the relation between twisting moment of F-EMS and frequency is affected by the range of frequency. The resultes provided the theoretical basis for formulating and optimizing the reasonable technological parameters.

Design concepts of billet caster’s primary cooling and secondary cooling system
The equipment of primary and secondary cooling systems are rather highly required in the high-speed billet caster production. Once the strand is not properly cooled even in slight deviation, it can cause such problems as off-tracking and off-squareness of strand, and would impair the caster running and strand quality. This paper introduced the method of improving precision of the primary and secondary cooling systems of billet caster and analyzed the concerned design concepts for reference.

Morphology analysis of short-line peeling defect on surface of 304 stainless steel cold-rolled sheet
The morphology of the short-line peeling defects on the surface of 304 stainless steel cold rolled sheet was observed using optical microscope and scanning electron microscope, the point analysis and surface distribution of local component were also detected using energy diffraction spectrometer. The results show that the microscopic morphology of short-line peeling defect on surface of 304 stainless steel cold rolled pickled sheet looks like a type of "groove", the bonding site of groove and normal surface appears layered step structure, and there is iron and chromium oxide film at the edge of the groove. According to experimental results and associated analysis, the short-line peeling defects are mainly due to the local high ferrite content caused by the segregation of Cr in triangle region of the slab. Then microcracks and local oxidation occur during hot rolling process. The oxide film deforms during cold rolling, and then the substrate covered on the oxide film peels off after pickling.

Formation mechanism and control measures of?corner transverse cracks in continuous casting slab
Slab corner transverse cracks are intergranular cracking at the Ⅲ brittle zone in steel. In the Ⅲ brittle zone temperature range, the precipitation of ferrite films in austenite grain boundaries weakens the grain boundaries, or due to the precipitation of carbon-nitrides, no precipitation area (grain boundary sliding) in the vicinity of the austenite grain boundaries forms, causing grain boundary embitterment. When the slab is subjected to tensile stress of bending, straightening or number zero dislocation segments at the temperature range, the cracks generate. The austenite grains are more coarse, the austenite grain boundary are more dispersed and fine, the more prone to cracking. The guarantee of continuous casting machine equipment precision and formulation of appropriate continuous casting process parameters are the most effective measures to eliminate?the corner transverse?cracks in?continuous casting slab.
