Research of casting technology on tail slab of 400 mm thick slab
Casting of tail slab is an unsteady casting process, the tail slab of 400mm thick slab is often accompanied by quality defects such as surface transverse crack and central shrinkage cavity. This paper investigated the influence of cast speed and anhydrous capping process on quality of the tail slab. The results show that when the time of process with casting speed of tail slab v<0.5 m/min is less than 5 min, the surface temperature of slab in straightening zone reach above 910 ℃. This can effectively reduce the surface transverse crack of the tail slab. If the end of the cast uses anhydrous capping process, the central shrinkage cavity of the tail slab can be elimited effectively. By taking measures, the amount of waste of tail slab has decreased from 242 tons per month to 30 tons per month, which was reduced by 87.9%. The length of the central shrinkage cavity of the tail slab was significantly shortened from 3.0-3.5 m to 1-2 m.

Process optimization of high carbon tool steel slab continuous casting
Combined with the high temperature mechanical experiments of steel grades, the production process of high carbon steel BJS55C was optimized in a steel plant. The secondary cooling intensity of bending section was weakened, and the distribution of cooling water in each zone was adjusted to avoided the brittle temperature range. As a result, the incidence of corner cracks of slab was reduced by 41%. The dynamic soft reduction zone was optimized. Meanwhile, the reduction increased by 15%. As a result, the macrostructure index of slab improved from 2.6 to 2.0. The melting point of high carbon steel mold flux was decreased from 1 100 ℃ to 980 ℃, and the viscosity of mold flux at 1 300 ℃ decreased from 0.14 Pa·s to 0.08 Pa·s. The melting effect and permeability of mold flux were obviously improved. Some key problems in the production of high carbon steel slab were solved, and the batch stable production of high carbon steel by continuous casting was realized.

Control and analysis of causes of indentations on billets of free cutting steel
For the surface indentations on billet of the 1215MS free-cutting steel, the characteristics of the indentation were detected by shot blasting, pickling, metallographic analysis, electron probe and energy spectrometer. Combined with the production practice, the causes and influence factors of the indentation were studied. The experimental research shows that the indentation can be improved effectively and avoided by adopting sinusoidal vibration with high frequency and low amplitude for the mold, reducing the mold cooling rate, restraining constriction of billet shell early, optimizing the properties of mold lubricant, reducing the viscosity of slag, increasing the accuracy of SEN, and promoting the homogeneity of secondary cooling.

Thermodynamic study on precipitation of TiN and TiC in continuous casting of titanium microalloyed steel
The precipitation of inclusions in continuous casting process has an important effect on the microstructure and properties of billets. In order to study the Precipitation Law of TiN and TiC inclusions in Ti microalloyed Q345 steel, the thermodynamics of TiN and TiC formation was calculated. The solid/liquid temperature, the precipitation temperature of carbonitride, the equilibrium/actual solubility product of TiN and TiC at different temperatures and the initial concentration of Ti and N required for precipitation were calculated. Precipitation of TiN and TiC during the solidification process of high titanium steel. The results show that TiN and TiC can not precipitate above the liquidus temperature, TiN and C begin to precipitate when fs>0.56 in the two-phase region and TiC begin to precipitate when fs>0.92 in the two-phase region because of the enrichment of Ti, N and C at the solidification front, and TiN particles precipitate in the solid austenite, while TiC precipitates at a lower temperature than TiN in the ferrite.

Experimental study on influence of water spray on radiative temperature measurement of slab surface
A large amount of water spray can cause error in radiation temperature measurement of slab surface in continuous casting secondary cooling zone. In order to find out the influence of water spray on the radiation temperature measurement of high temperature slab, in this paper an experimental device was designed to study the influence of water spray on the radiation temperature measurement error of high temperature slab. Experimental study of the influence of water spray on the radiation temperature measurement error is carried out by using the experimental device. The study shows that when the water spray exists, the two-color radiation temperature measurement is more accurate than the monochromatic radiation temperature measurement. Its relationship with the actual temperature, water volume and thickness of water mist is T=T双-(aQ+b)h-cQ-d. The relationship between pressure and air pressure is ?T=kh-b1. The parameters are determined through experiments. The research results can provide accurate temperature measurement for continuous casting process.

Research and practice on corner scarring defect of continuous casting slabs
In this paper, the formation procedure and mechanism of scarring defects at the corners of slabs produced by Baosteel Meishan Steelmaking plant were systematically investigated. It preliminarily found that the scarring defects formed at the mold meniscus through analysis to macroscopic morphology with field tracking. And it was ascribed to the overflow of solidification furrow at the corner of shell caused by the rupture, overflow and condensation of the primary shell of the meniscus. According to the analysis, the following measures are suggested to diminish the defects: the sinterability of mold powder should be reduced. While the deviation of crystallizer vibration as well as the cooling homogeneity should also be strictly controlled. Thus, the quality of the mold copper plate and the functional accuracy of the equipment related to the forces of the primary shell in the mold must be guaranteed. The corner scarring defects of slabs then will be diminished

Inclusions distribution in non-oriented silicon steel and its influence on performance consistency of strip steel
In this study, the types, morphologies and distributions of inclusions and precipitates along the length of non-oriented silicon steel strip are systematically tested and analyzed. The inclusions above 1 um are mainly Al2O3 and CaO-Al2O3, which distribute in different parts of the coil with little differences. The fine precipitates below 0.5 um are mainly AlN, MnS and their composite precipitates. The number of precipitates at the head of the coil is obviously more than that at the tail. The differences of distribution of inclusions and precipitates lead to the differences of grain size, which can reach about 20% between head and tail. As a result, the magnetic properties between head and tail are different.

PIV measurement on flow field in the physical model of beam blank casting mold
The physical model of a beam blank continuous casting mold with a cross-section size of 767.3 mm×383.1 mm×103.2 mm have been established in the ratio of 1[∶]1, in order to assess the influence of different technical parameters and nozzle structures on the flow field. PIV (particle Image Velocimetry) measurement technique was applied in this research. The experimental results showed that reducing the casting speed and increasing the inner diameter at the bottom of the nozzle can effectively reduce the penetration depth of the jet flow. The maximum velocity of jet flow at the depth of 860 mm in the mold decreased by 27.96% and 41.46%, respectively. Increasing the casting speed and decreasing the immersion depth of the nozzles can heighten the upper vertices of lower eddies in the flow field. The flow field in the mold can be improved by reducing the casting speed and the immersion depth of nozzles and increasing the inner diameter at the bottom of the nozzles.
