Abstract:The ASTM E213 Standard Practice for Ultrasonic Testing of Metal Pipe and Tubing stipulates that, the ultrasonic probe must be able to generate a transverse wave with a beam center of approximately 45° in the pipe or pipe wall to scan the entire steel pipe wall thickness. In order to solve the detection problem of automatic ultrasonic inspection equipment for water immersion, the shear wave refraction angle should be precisely controlled. Two technologies including water acoustic path regulation method and secondary path adjustment method were introduced for accurately adjusting the shear wave refraction angle of acoustic beam in steel tube.
