Abstract:The failure reasons of a cracked stainless steel welded pipe were analyzed by means of optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDX) and micro vickers. The results showed that there was residual stress in the local repair welding area of the stainlesssteel tube. The repair welding caused sensitization of the grain boundary of the nearby microstructure. There were corrosive media such as sulfur ion and chloride ion in the cooperative environment, so the stress corrosion intergranular cracking occurred at the repair welding location.
