Abstract: Analysis on the surface cracking of a certain blade during operation for some time was carried out by means of optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), tensile strength tester and microVickers. The working conditions of the blade were listed as below: the rated operating speed was 3 000 r/min, the operating temperature was 92.5 ℃, and the pressure was -0.594 MPa. The results showed that the local aggregation of the medium containing sulfate ions on the blade surface led to surface corrosion, which was the main reason for the blade cracking failure. The cracking was the surface corrosion which started from the surface, and then the pitting cracking failure was caused.
