Analysis of 430 stainless steel corrosion used in washing machine cylinder

Abstract:The reasons of corrosion of 430 stainless steel used in the inner drum of washing machine were analyzed by means of microstructure observation of metallographic microscope, morphology observation of scanning electron microscope and composition analysis of Xray energy spectrometer. The results show that the corrosion of the sample surface is caused by the large deformation of the punching area of the steel plate, which leads to the thinning or destruction of the passivation film on the sample surface, and seriously reduces the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel. The corrosion is caused by the activation of chloride ions in the working environment. The oxygen content of ferrochrome oxide on the surface of the defect varies with the degree of corrosion. In the production process, the sample should be avoided in the wet medium for a long time, which can effectively prevent residual chloride ions from damaging the surface passivation film and significantly reduce the occurrence of corrosion defects.
