Study of Grain Refinement and Precipitation in VN Steels Produced by CSP Process

Abstract:Using VN microalloying technology, strips whose yield strength is 600 MPa grade is produced by compact strip production (CSP) line. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope were used to study the microstructure and precipitation in VN steels. The ferrite grain size is about three microns. Tow types of V(C,N) particles with several tens nanometers or several nanometers are found. The main strengthening method is grain refinement, and V(C,N) particles play an important role of precipitation hardening. Base on the experimental results, the main reason for ultrafine microstructure was discussed.
