Applied Simulation Following Control Restrain Torsional Vibration of Rolling Mill
The torsional vibration of rolling mill can damage the equipment and production. A mathematical model was built based on the analysis of vibration and it was found that the rolling current is the determining factor of vibration. At Anyang Iron and Steel Company according to field investigations, that the vibration of rolling mill occurs during biting. The simulation following control (SFC) was built with a precise motor model to calculate and compensate set current for eliminating vibration of main driver. The application shows that the SFC is effective for eliminating mill vibration at any frequency, and easy to implement.

Research on Practical Method for Intermesh Calculation for 5Roller Straightener
On the basis of operation of 5roller straightener, the principle of intermesh calculation is discussed. With elastoplastic bending theory, a math model was established. The effect of intermesh on quality of product is discussed. The difference between calculated and measured intermesh is quite small. The results show that the last intermesh should be within a certain range, and the intermesh is more sensitive to strip thickness than the steel properties, the thicker strip the higher intermesh precision is required, the intermesh tolerance should be less than 0.05 mm if the strip thickness is ≥ 10.5 mm.

Properties of Direct Cold Rolled 0Cr18Ni9 Stainless Steel Strip Cast by Twinroll Strip Casting Process
In order to improve the surface quality and overall mechanical properties of 0Cr18Ni9 stainless steel strip cast by twinroll strip casting process, the strip was direct cold rolled. The result shows that an obvious improvement in structure and properties of cold rolled product, with weak anisotropy is obtained, and the corrosion resistance is greatly improved. Thus the direct cold rolling of cast 0Cr18Ni9 stainless strip is feasible.

Analysis and Application of Roll Contour in View of 3500 mm Medium Plate Mill of Shougang Group
The inactivation and scaling of backup rolls in 3500 mm plate mill at Shougang Group are caused by nonuniform contact pressure distribution as well as stress concentration at the edges of rolls. An analytic model of roll elasticity deformation based on the influence function method was developed to simulate the rolling process. The effects of rolling parameters such as plate width, roll contours, chamfer and straight chamfer parameters on the contact pressure distribution were studied. The results show, that for wide plate and roll with concave contour, the contact pressure distribution tends to be uniform, the stress concentration at the edges of rolls is influenced by chamfer parameters. This analysis can be used as the basis for optimizing design of the roll contour, and enhancing the roll service life.

Effect of Production Processes on Low Temperature Toughness of 420 MPa High Strength Shipbuilding Steel
The strong instability of -40℃ longitudinal impact strength of E42 shipbuilding steel observed in trial production was studied by using different processes. The results show that for twophase rolling, the structure with mixed crystals is formed in product due to rolling in partially recrystallized zone caused by the effect of rolling piece thickness increment on deformation temperature of nonrecrystallized zone, and as the result, the low temperature impact strength of product is reduced. On the other hand, the granular bainite is formed during cooling at improper rate after rolling, making low temperature impact strength lower, too.

Effect of Structure Refining on Mechanical Properties of Medium Carbon CrMo Steel
The effect of austenite grain size, which was obtained by changing the austenitizing temperature and using repeated heat treatment, on mechanical properties of quenched and tempered medium carbon CrMo steel was studied. The results show that with increasing austenitizing temperature to 1050 ℃, the strength increases. But with same austenitizing temperature, strength and impact toughness of steel increase with decreasing the austenite grain size, while ductility decreases as austenite grain size decreases. Low temperature toughness is remarkably improved by grain refinement.

Effect of Niobium on Microstructure and Strengthening Mechanism of HSLA Steel
Microstructure and mechanical properties of three HSLA (highstrength lowalloy) steels with different niobium content (0.021%,0.081% and 0.17%) were investigated. The results show that niobium increment retains the formation of pearlite and makes fraction of acicular ferrite and fine niobium carbonitride niobium increase. Meanwhile, the analysis of strengthening mechanism of three steels indicated that the effect of grain refining strengthening is almost the same but precipitation hardening is obviously increased with increasing niobium content.

Segregation Controlling of High Carbon Steel Wire Rod
The main cause of martensite formation in central part of wire rod is central segregation in the bloom as determined by this study and martensite makes sharp fracture of the wire rod. It was shown that index of carbon central segregation in bloom should be less than 1.12 and index of total central segregation should be less than 1.20, to avoid martensite, the index of central carbon segregation in the bloom can be reduced from 1.18 to 1.10 by reducing over heat of molten steel in tundish and using electromagnetic stirring and soft reduction, to reduce sharp fracture.

Genetic Analysis of Surface Cracks in H Beam
H beam is produced from beam blank at Masteel. Owing to the special shape, uneven distribution of lateral surface temperature, complicate distribution of strain and stress, high quality molten steel and high level continuous casting operation are required for continuous casting of beam blanks. The reasons of surface cracking are: in production, SS400 molten steel is not refined, C content of some heats locates in the range of peritectic reaction, S and P contents are high, Mn/S is low; and T[O] and content of macroinclusions are high; thickness of the shell is uneven and up stream of the liquid steel is weak in the mold by use of submerged nozzles with straight outlets and at low casting speed, which makes heat supply to molten steel insufficient and full melt of mould powder; the surface temperature of the web is in the brittleness range due to high cooling intensity in the secondary cooling zone.

Study on Sulfide Inclusions and Effect of Calcium Treatment for Pipeline Steel
The morphology and composition of sulfide inclusions in pipeline steel were analyzed systematically. The effect of calcium treatment was also evaluated according to modification index of oxide and sulfide. After the calcium treatment, no manganese sulfide in grain boundaries was observed. The small amount of sulfide were classified into three types, (Ca,Mn)S complex inclusions, CaOAl2O3CaS, in which the CaS is uniformly dispersed, and CaOAl2O3CaS, in which the CaS is appeared as a distinct phase around the nuclei. These inclusions are beneficial to improvement of HIC resistance. Under current technology, the adding 0.7 kg/t calciumsilicon wire is not enough to modify, the inclusions, thus CaSi wire consumption should be increased appropriately.

On Energy Utilization in EAF Steelmaking
The basic functions of EAF steelmaking and three engineering problems for improving the efficiency of energy transfer including increasing energy supply and power input, improving the efficiency of energy utilization are expatiated. The functions of EAF steelmaking in coordination of all steps in whole steel product manufacture process are discussed. Based on the performance of four domestic largescale EAF steelmakers in the years of 2003 and 2004, it can be concluded that the productivity and power consumption of them have reached international advanced level. But the efficiency of energy and mass transfer is still low and energy saving should be improved in the future.

Experimental Study on Dephosphorization of Hot Metal With Low Basicity Slag
One important characteristic of hot metal dephosphorization with low basicity slag is to form low basicity, high oxygen potential slag. The slag of 1.31.8 basicity and 20%25% w(TFe) and > 0.20 m3/(min·t) bottom blowing intensity were used for experiment of dephosphorization of hot metal containing 4.0%w(C), 0.1%0.3% w(P) and 0.4%w(Si) by combined blowing. The results show, that phosphorus partition ratio of around 200 and dephosphorization rate of >90% can be obtained. The effect of oxygen blowing parameters and bottom blowing intensity is discussed.

Production of Tire Cord Steel Wire at Angang
Angang New Steel Co., Ltd. produces tire cord steel wire with hot metal desulphurization, converter steelmaking, LF and VD treatments, bloom casting and hot charge rolling. The size of brittle inclusions in the wire such as Al2O3 and Ti(C,N) and so on is less than 5 μm. The width of plastic inclusions is less than 15 μm. The composition of liquid steel is controlled in a narrow range. Sampling inspection proves segregation in bloom is slight. Wires from different heats have uniform properties. The indexes of decarburization depth, distribution of cementite along grain boundaries and scaling are in accordance with specification. Customer tryout proves tire cord steel wire meets their requirements, and the tire cord steel wire has been put into mass production.

Study on Reduction Sequence of Hematite at LowTemperature NonEquilibrium State
Reduction kinetic Mechanism of hematite by CO or H2 gas below 570 ℃ was studied. The results show that reduction process is of nonequilibrium process, and its kinetics depend on compositions of reducing gas.Reduction sequence of hematite is Fe2O3→Fe3O4→Fe when the content of CO or H2 in reduction gas can not satisfy the reaction Fe3O4+CO(H2)→3FeO+CO2(H2O); if the later is satisfied, two reduction sequences Fe2O3→Fe3O4→Fe and Fe2O3→Fe3O4→FeO→Fe will be coexisted.

Experimental Study on Sintering With Adding Yangdi Iron Ore at Shougang
Influence of Yangdi iron fine ore addition on sintering was studied. The laboratory results show that the drum strength of sinters is improved, the fuel rate and productivity are increased, and RDI is decreased with the increase of Yangdi fine ore content. It is feasible to add that 10%20% Yangdi Fine ore. The industrial trial was done in the second sinter plant, the maximum ratio of Yangdi fine ore was 30%. The results were similar to the laboratory ones.

Study and Industrial Application of New No.2 BF Drying Process
In order to eliminate the internal stress of BF cooling stave, a novel approach to dry the lining and eliminate the casting internal stress simultaneously was developed. A series of hot simulation experiments on an experimental cooling stave for first generation of new No.2 BF were conducted in the laboratory by means of mechanical property tests, Xray stress measurement and microstructure analysis. The results were used for drying process of new No.2 BF. The results of industrial test show that by using the new drying process, the casting stress of cooling stave is reduced by up to 93%, and the mechanical properties of the stave is also improved by 12%.

Study on Modifing Synthesis of Potash Fertilizer With LongTerm Effectiveness From Desiliconization Slag
The synthesis of potash fertilizer from desiliconization slag and potassium carbonate, and the dissolution rate of potassium from potash fertilizer different conditions were studied. The influence of amount of potassium oxide addition, heating temperature, holding time and cooling mode on crystallizability of and dissolution rate of potassium from potash fertilizer were investigated. The results showed that the potash fertilizer can be synthesized with desiliconized slag and potassium carbonate, and is composed of amorphous potassium containing compounds. The dissolution rate of potassium from fertilizer in water is less than that in aqueous citric acid solution and much less than that from widely used fertilizer of potassium sulphate. The fact shows that the potash fertilizer synthesized with desiliconized slag has an obvious property of slow release. The effect of heating temperature, holding time and cooling mode on its crystallizability and dissolution rate of potassium is not obvious.

Study of Sintering Gas Desulphurization Technique
For desulphurization of sintering gas, a pilot dense flow absorber was built and desulphurization experiment was carried out. The results show that the SO2 concentration at outlet is between 80 and 120 mg/m3, and the desulphurization efficiency is ove 95% when Ca/S is 1.2, water addition is 3%, and circulating sorbent concentration is 400 g/m3.

Development of Process and Equipment of RH Vacuum Refinery Technology
The development of RH vacuum refinery technology in the recent 20 years was summarized. It points out that multifunctional RH is the main tendency. Deep decarburization, degas, desulphurization, dephosphorization, deoxidation, inclusion removal and heat compensation integration are the key technologies to realize the multifunction of RH. Based on it, the technical development of the high efficiency and long life and end point intelligent control were expatiated.

hin Slab Caster Plant at Benxi Iron & Steel Group in China
Benxi Iron & Steel Group Co.(China)ordered Danieli in 2003 to produce brandnew casting plant with two fTSC(Flexible thin slab casters). These lines, installed in two periods, were successfully started up and put in operation in November 2004 (only 20 months after contract signing)and in June 2005 respectively, allowing Benxi to produce up to 2.8 Mt/y of qualified thin slabs.
