Brief Analysis of Ladle Free-Opening Method and a New Proposed Method
In the course of the continuous steel casting, ladle free-opening is one important link that joins production. While introducing ladle free-opening methods, the pouring methods that were seldom used or eliminated were analyzed; and ladle filler sand method widely used now was analyzed. Finally, based on the working mechanism of ladle filler sand, replacing ladle filler sand using the iron carbon alloy was proposed, and solidification shell was formed to block the molten steel in the ladle upper nozzle, then the induction coil that was installed around the ladle upper nozzle was used for induction until melting, thereby the ladle free-opening was realized.

Numerical Simulation of Flow Field for Six Strands Tundish
The flow field of six-strand tundish was simulated using fluid dynamics package FLUENT. The characteristics of six-strand tundish flow field are analysed. The path lines of fluid and flow field in tundish are compared on the condition of tundish with C shape weir or without weir. The simulation results show that the liquid steel among outlets is homogeneous with the join of C shape weir, which is favourable for the inclusion removal. The results are essential for optimizing the dam and weir parameters of six-strand tundish.

Numerical Simulation of Solidification Microstructure During Continuous Casting Round Bloom
Abstract:Prediction and control of steel microstructure during and after the continuous casting process is an extremely important task for steel producers to make special steels with high quanlity. Continuous casting is a very complex process with series of parallel phenomena of heat and mass transfer, solidification and phase transformations. In the CAFE model, the cellular automation method was combined with heat transfer calculation during the continuous casting process. Simulations of solidification process of continuous cast round bloom were carried out with ProCAST software, and the simulation results are consistent with the measure surface temperature of continuous casting round bloom. Base on the CAFE method, 3D-microstructure of continuous casting round was simulated during solidification process, and simulation results were evaluated from comparison between experimentally observed and simulated macrostructures of the round bloom. It was proved that the simulation result was consistent with industy experiment result.

Development of Oriented Electrical Steel in Thin Slab Continuous Casting and Rolling
Technology of oriented electrical steel in thin slab continuous casting and rolling was introduced. Particularly, key technology and parameters of producing oriented electrical steel in thin slab continuous casting and rolling were analyzed. Characteristics of producing oriented electrical steel in thin slab continuous casting and rolling were reviewed. Analysis of development of oriented electrical steel in thin slab continuous casting and rolling is important for improving products quality and appearance of new technology.

Exploration and Practice of New Flexible Technology for Continuous Casting
To solve the problems of small quantities of orders, more specifications and varieties of miscellaneous which will affect cost and productivity, the new flexible technology for continuous casting was explored, that is"different sizes of the billet can be casted with the same tundish in the same casting". Under the condition of good quality and industry safety, the frequent startup and shutdown, the waste of head billet and tail billet, tundish refractories and casting accessories such as consumption were reduced, and at the same time, the labor intensity of worker were also decreased so that the production efficiency of steelmaking and CC was increased sufficiently and the working procedure cost was decreased.

Production Practice of 420 mm Slab Continuous Casting in Steel Plant
Abstract:More attention has been paid on the heavy plates with high value-added in modern continuous casting production. Comparing with ingot, continuous casting has the advantages of high efficiency production and saving energy, and hence more and more plants are planning to build or reconstruct continuous casting lines to produce heavy plates. In the present paper, the features, related technologies and industrial application in Xin Steel of the 420 mm slab casting designed independently by CISDI was described. The production practice indicated that this continuous casting line could meet the steel plant’s demand of high-quality heavy slab production.

DSU Zero Fault Management of Panzhihua Mould Electromagnetic Stirring System
Abstract:Take ABB electromagnetic stirring system core unit DSU in steel plant on the billet continuous casting machine in 8 years and the fault operation as the background, DSU fault reasons were analyzed in detail and summed up, and thoughts to inspect, operate, maintain the DSU equipment were put forward. It is emphasized that the interval length of equipment failure free operation not only depends on its quality, more on the regular use and maintenance of the equipment.

Test and Analysis of SS400B Plate Edge Defect
Abstract:Defect of SS400B plate edge with 45mm in thickness was tested and analyzed by macroscopic observation, metallography, SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) and EDS(Energy Dispersive Spectrometer). The results showed that there were oxidation, decarburization and non-metallic inclusions near the defect, and some bubbles remained in the matrix after rolling, which indicated that the bubbles on the continuous casting slab surface and pinholes were the main cause of the defect on plate’s edge.

Analysis of Causes and Countermeasures of Q345 M-Type Sliver
Abstract:The cause for the M-type sliver were identified by inspecting the appearance of cracks. By analyzing characteristics of the steel grade and tracking the production on site, the causes for the cracks of the slab were found out. And also corresponding measures were taken to eliminate the M-type sliver of Q345 steel.

Formation and Control of Edge Cracks on Medium Plate of 718HL
The formation mechanism of edge cracks on medium plate of 718HL was studied. It’s proved that the cracks are not newly developed but originated primarily from the transversal crack of the inner bow of the slab and the crack are closely related to the uneven cooling of slab. The edge cracks on medium plate can be reduced effectively by the control of accuracy of the key equipments of the continuous caster, so that secondary cooling parameters can be optimized and protective casting enhanced.

Causes and Countermeasures of Triangle Area Crack in Slab
Abstract:After investigating the causes for the slab triangle area cracks, it is considered that under the conditions of Pangang’s continuous casting, high sulfur in steel, casting speed fluctuation of caster, poor equipment condition and bad effect of secondary cooling are the main causes. And the triangle area cracks were controlled effectively after taking corresponding measures.
