Practice of Steel-Grade Change After Flying Tundish in Shougang Jingtang Continuous Caster
Flying tundish is an effective way for cutting down preparing time in continuous casting, consequence in more operating time, higher production or lower cost. There are always same steel grades before and after flying tundish. However, the paper introduces technologies to change steel grade after flying tundish, which was proved being practically available in Shougang Jingtang.

Cause Analysis and Preventive Measures of Breakout in Slab Continuous Caster
Conglutinating breakout is a common style on breakout accidents in Slab continuous casting. Analyses on the cause of breakout in slab continuous caster at Chongqing Steel-Making Plant from 2010.12 to 2012.3 was carried out. It was believed that poor performance of covering slag, fluctuation of liquid level, frequent change of pulling rate, submersed nozzle bias flow are the main reasons for sticking breakout. Improvements and preventive measures were proposed and good results were obtained.

Optimization of Mould Taper Design for Continuous Casting of Wide and Thick Slab
The taper of wide and thick slab mould of a domestic steel mill was optimized based on the actual production situation. A finite element method (FEM) was employed for the calculation of temperature field and law of slab shrinkage in the mold. The influences of casting speed and liquid steel superheating on temperature field and law of slab shrinkage were analyzed. Based on the results obtained the mould taper was optimized: using larger taper at 120~300mm near liquid surface and using minor taper at mould bottom 300~900mm from liquid surface. The result is very similar with that in reality, showing that the result is right.

Exploration of New Method for Continuous Casting
The current limitations of the continuous casting mold oscillation mode of production and its problems are introduced, and the types of casting defect and causes are analyzed. Newly developed principles and advantages of non-vibrating mould are proposed, and the method to use a non-vibrating mould for production of high quality round slabs, round billets in mold and hollow tubes is presented.

Development and Practice of Meishan Breakout Prediction System
In the production process of No.2 slab caster of Meishan Steel-Making Plant, the breakout accidents often occur more frequently, and at the same time the number of false alarm positives, seriously affects the slab quality and production efficiency of the caster. In view of this situation, Meishan Steel self-developed breakout prediction system for No.2 slab caster, and then put it into use. After that the sticking breakout was completely avoided, the problem was solved and the substantial costs were saved for the company.

Numerical Simulation of Molten Steel Stream Flow Field With Bias Flow in Billet Mold
In the experiment, a model was created based on the mold of a stainless steel billet continuous caster of 165mm×163mm. The distribution of flow field and liquid level fluctuation in the billet mold with a nozzle deviated from the center of the mold inlet with different distance were investigated. The CFX software was used to simulate the process. The results show that the impact of molten steel stream on the billet shell of outer arc is weakened when the nozzle deviates from the centre of the mold inlet by 12mm. At the same time, the backflow of molten steel on the wall of the mold can flow to the meniscus and the distribution of flow field in the mold is more reasonable.

Research and Amelioration of ABB EMS
Hunan Valin Xiangtan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. imported a big bloom and abnormity EMS stirrer system from ABB, but some disfigurements were found during production, including tie-in leakage, insulation fall, short life time etc. Aimed at solving those disfigurements, an improvement of research and design was performed. In this paper, ABB stirrer’s configuration, characteristic and disfigurements were introduced, and magnetic field distribution was briefly described. In order to ensure magnetic intensity, an ANSYS emulator software was used to simulate theoretic magnetic field, and it is confirmed that the magnetic intensity can meet technical requirement.

Technical Study and Application of Split Roller Cooling Water Sealing of Caster in Shouqin
Leaking between the three split rollers of caster segment for the non-entire shaft roller has a serious influence on the surface quality of the slab and the costs of segment maintenance. In this study, the characteristics and reasons of leakage points section of the roller were analyzed, and the key point was obtained which is that how to ensure the synchronization of three split rollers and nonrigid connection between rollers. According to the analysis, the slider with a cross shaft coupling was confirmed. Practice proved that the scheme can perfect the solution of the three split rollers leaking problem, and greatly prolong the roller life, and improve the surface quality of slab.

Study on Control Technology of Slab Quality for Low-Alloy Steel
There were serious transverse corner cracks on continuous casting slab of low alloy steel in Panzhihua Steel before, and study on the control of slab quality had been carried out. Some effective countermeasures are put forward, such as the optimization of primary cooling system and mold powder. Industrial tests show that the transverse corner cracks on continuous casting slab have been significantly reduced, and the reject rate of hot rolled sheet caused by the transverse corner cracks is reduced from 7.2% to 0.74%.
