Cause Analysis and Improvement Measures on Round Billet Continuous Casting Slab Jitter
In this investigationcauses for casting billet jitter were analyzed and improvement measures were proposed under the consideration of actual situation. Result shows that, in two strand cold chamber the jitter is due to equipment precision and overlarge taper of the crystallizer copper tube. For the production of No.20, 16Mn, 37Mn5 shell which is relatively soft and ductile, jitter does not occur or only slight jitter occurs; but for the production of 40Mn2, 26CrMo, 27CrMo44 which have higher strength and hardness, severe wobble occurs. The using of low viscosity, low melting slag can increase lubrication performance and reduce billet jitter obviously, but fails to eradicate jitter.

Analysis About Straighten Principle on 5-Roll Withdraw and Straighten Machine of Billet Caster
Based on a 5-rolls withdraw and straighten machine, the straighten principle and the effect of straight on billet are analyzed. The result show that: the cast speed should be control less than 2.6m/min on same steel grade sensitive about crack for the strand has liquid core when it is straighten. Although the 5-rolls withdraw and straighten machine is 2 point straight the billet but the billet is smoothly straightened. During the straighten process the deformation rate is deeply small, it can reach the similar straighten effect and get high quality billet in productive process.

Application of Mold Powder in Continuous Casting Machine
Mold powder is a very significant and critical material and takes a key role during casting. The main functions of the mold powder are to play insulation, prevent re-oxidation, control heat transfer of liquid steel, and lubricate shell. It is a key material to promote the development of continuous casting technology, and ensure the smooth process of continuous casting and quality of casting. In view of its importance, various physical and chemical properties of mold powder, are detailed analyzed combined with steel types and cast section and other conditions, systematic analysis on the impact of performance of mold powder and how to choose the correct mold powder are also discussed.

Consideration of Large Bloom and Round Section Caster’s Arrangement of Containing Rollers With Soft Reduction Technique
Large bloom and round section casters with soft reduction technique must face the opposite choice of roller face shape which is whether arc shaped face is used or not. For the round section, using arc shaped roller face is necessary to ensure strand alignment. But for the bloom section, when soft reduction is applyied, with very large pressure, arc shaped roller face can form hump on bloom surface, which is obviously unacceptable. So the bloom section and the round section have the different requirement for roller face shape of withdrawing and straightening unit. How to solve this problem is the key point for the using of soft reduction in bloom and round section casters. According to author’s experience in real engineering practice, a new idea have been put forward to solve this problem.

A New Technology of Swirling Flow in Continuous Casting Process: Electromagnetic Swirling Flow in Immersion Nozzle
The fundamental researches show that, swirling flow in an immersion nozzle can effectively improve the uniformity and stability of the flow from the nozzle, and consequently improve the distribution of flow and temperature, reduce meniscus fluctuation in mold. In this study a new process is proposed, in which a rotating electromagnetic stirrer is set up around an immersion nozzle to induce a swirling flow in it by Lorentz force. The flow distribution in mold for round billet and square billet continuous casting process in a round electromagnetic swirling flow generator with 350A electromagnetic swirling flow is numerically analyzed. The simulation results show that: for round billet, the electromagnetic swirling flow downward from the immersion nozzle can drive all the flow in mold swirling; for square billet, with electromagnetic swirling, a weak swirling flow can be observed at the corner of the meniscus, and the impinging depth of the flow becomes less while the upward flow velocity becomes larger.

Structure Modification of Continuous Casting Roller
The casting roll life is an important impact factor for the production continuity of continuous casting. There are two kinds of typical structure of continuous casting segmented roller, one kind is each segmented roller as independent unit; the other kind is the core axis with sleeve. In this study, refered to the calculation method of the rolling force, the structural analysis and the force analysis of two different types roller have been made, then the structure modification has been carried out, in order to reduce manufacture and maintenance costs and improve the roll’s service life.

Causes and Control Measures for Transverse Cracks on Surface of Nb Bearing Steel
By means of the analysis of SEM and metallograph of the samples cut from the transverse cracks on the surface of the slabs and plates of Nb bearing steel in grade Q345E, it is determined that the transverse cracks appeared in the continuous casting mold. After analyzing the relevant factors that might cause cracks in the continuous casting mold, the slag powder was optimized and the amount of the cooling water in the continuous casting mold was reduced and the oscillation frequency of the continuous casting mold was increased. These effective measures made the incidence of transverse cracks on the surface of the steel drop from 1.0% to below 0.3%.

Test of Slabs Center Segregation
Some slabs were tested by using common detection methods, including in situ analysis, high magnification observation and dendrite observation. The results showed that the segregation of C element resulted in center segregation of Q345 steel slabs. It was found that the solute converging points superposed the micropores and the negative segregation valleys always adjoined the positive peaks. The phenomenon proved that the negative pressure sucking effect induces center segregation. Meanwhile, the results also showed that the slab center segregation was induced by muti-driving force.

Analysis on Slab Transverse Corner Cracks and Countermeasures in Qiangang
Formation mechanism of slab corner cracks was investigated systematically in Qiangang. Temperature measurement of slab corner and high temperature mechanical properties tests shows that the bending and unbending in brittle zone is the main reason for slab corner cracks. Countermeasures were carried out in steel composition control, casting machine maintenances, secondary cooling optimization, and mould taper adjustment, which decreased slab corner cracks obviously.
