Current Situation and Existing Problems of Blast Furnace Ironmaking in China
In 2006, Chinese steel industry produced 418.78 million tons of crude steel and 404.16 million tons of iron. This paper describes the current situation of Chinese blast furnace ironmaking and the progress achieved after entering the 21st century. The rapid growth of Chinese steel industry has brought about high demand for natural resources and heavy impact on global environment. This paper analyses the existing problems and anticipates the prospect of ironmaking industry in China.

Oxidizing Roasting and Its Mechanism
The phase transformation and weight loss rate of ludwigite in oxidizing roasting were studied by DTATG, isothermal TG and XRD. The results show that magnetite is transformed into hematite, serpentine is decomposed into forsterite at lower temperature (T<700 ℃). The dehydration and transformation into suanite of decomposed of szaibelyite at about 700 ℃ is the main reason of ludwigite weight loss. It was found by XRD that paigeite and magnoferrite are the most stable component without phase tromsformation during oxidizing roasting.

Research on Size Distribution of Sinters With Different MgO Content
By studying the size distribution of sinters with different MgO content, the fractal dimension was calculated with a linear correlation coefficients was over 0.97,so, it is to characterize the size distribution of sinters with different MgO content by fractal dimension.The fractal dimension can be used to evaluate the MgO content of sinters quantitatively.With microstructure of the sinter, the relationship between drum strength,yield and fractal dimension of sinters can be explained.The fractal dimension is increased with the MgO content.

Study on Substitution of BF Bosh Gas Index for Operation Intensity
By analyzing BF operation data, it was proved that the limitative factor of BF operation intensity is the gas permeability of bosh(bosh gas nidex). Through analysis of factors effecting on BF operation intensity,such as raw material and fuel quality, heat consumed at tuyeres, hot blast temperature, blast oxygen enrichment, etc., it was proved that bosh gas index can be used to represent BF operation intensity.

Study on Mathematical Model for Burden Optimization of Blast Furnace

On the basis of BF Ironmaking technology, considering expert knowledge of reactions at high temperature among iron bearing materials and softening and melting characteristics of them,an optimal burden model of BF was set up according to the linear programming theory. The calculated burdens were compared with the actual ones.The results show that the model is reasonable and it can be used to realize both smooth operation and cost reduction.

Application of BOF OffGas Analysis Dynamic Control
The principle,operation of BOF offgas analysis dynamic control model and measures to deal with excese carbon content at endpoint are introduced.The relation ship between carbon content in bath and decarbonization rate was studied. The conclusions are: To ensure the stability of the endpoint prediction, the lance position should be fixed and no additions should be charged 2 min before blowing end; w[C]<0.04% should be reached with low lance position, or blowing 15 s after cross of CO2 and N2 curves,before deciding whether to raise lance when the carbon content is high at endpoint; Taking into account the impact of lance position on decarbonization rate, the relation ship between carbon content and decarbonization rate at endpoint can be expressed by a cubic function;Thermal equilibrium can be used for predicting bath temperature at endpoint only with stable raw materials supply and operation.

Thermodynamics of Calcium Treatment for 20CrMnTiH1
20CrMnTiH1 is a aluminumdeoxidized resulphurized steel. Normally calcium is added in the last stage of refining process to modify oxides and sulphides to improve the product quality. Based on the thermodynamic equilibrium, the conditions of Al2O3 modification and CaS formation for Ca treated 20CrMnTiH1 steel were discussed in detail. The calculated results show that in the steel melt containing 0.02%0.03%[S], 0.02%0.04%[Al] treated by calcium, CaS is easily formed and it is difficult modify Al2O3 into low melting point C12A7. With analysis of the steel sample and blocked nozzle by SEMEDS, it was found that there were CaS and not fully modified calciumaluminate in the steel. Inclusions which caused nozzle blockage during casting were mainly of CaS and CA. The calculation agreed well with the SEM observation. Counter measures to avoid nozzle blockage are proposed.

Investigation on Production of High Purity Hot Forging Steels for Automotives
High purity hot forged steel for automotives with 0.005% of w([P]) and less than 0.001% w(T[O]) has been produced by means of increasing hot metal charging ratio, strengthening dephosphurization in EAF, strong direct and indirect deoxidations, etc. It was found that more segregations of C, P, S and Mn occurred at the boundaries between the columnar grains and equiaxed grains. There were mainly two types of nonmetallic inclusions in the steels, which were the MnSMnO typed inclusions and TiNVN typed inclusions. The MnSMnO type inclusions contained 70%81% MnS and were plastic inclusions. While, the TiNVN type inclusions contained 72%85% TiN and were unformable inclusions during hot deformation.

Investigation of Cleanliness of NonQuenchandTempered Steel With UltraLow Oxygen Content for Automobile SemiAxis
Cleanliness of nonquenchandtempered steel with ultralow oxygen content for automobile semiaxis,produced by EAFLFVDCC process was investigated. It was found that several measures should be taken to produce billets with a total oxygen content below 0.0010%. Firstly, the basicity of LF slagw(CaO)/w(SiO2) ratiomust be controlled at 4.0 or higher. As well, (FetO+MnO) content in LF slag should be kept below 1% by control of bottomblown argon flow rate to avoid the pickup of it. Secondly, calcium oxide should be added during vacuum degassing to maintain a high basicity slag, with SiO2 lower than 10%.The time of argon blowing during vacuum degassing should be increased to promote the removal of inclusions from molten steel. Thirdly, reoxidization of the molten steel should be prohibited in the tundish as well as proper casting speed should be used to alleviate or even eliminate the entrapping of tundish slag.

Research of CompleteDecoupling and AntiInterference Combined Control of Shape and Gauge of Strip
The process of strip rolling is a multivariable process control system.Product quality is influenced by couplings between useful input and output and between interference input and output.By use of a decoupling controller and a feedforward compensator ,the system is decoupled and the interference caused by the disturbance in slab thickness is depressed.The practice showed that the decoupling controller and the compensator have good availability ensuring improved AGC and ASC in combination.

Automative Edge Drop Control System of UCMW Cold Mill and Its Optimization
Reduction of edgedrop of coldrolled strips is still a problem.The control idea and strategy of AEC(Automation Edge Drop Control) system imported from Japan was studied.Some shortcomings of this control system were brought out,such as invalidation of model prediction ability,improper parameters of feedback control model and imperfection of control strategy making edge drop out of control.The system was optimized. The practical data show that the optimized control system can reduce the edgedrop obviously,especially at the operation side.

Influence of Mo on Secondary Hardening Behavior of UltraHigh Strength AF1410 Steel
The mechanical properties of experimental AF1410 with 30% Mo aged at different temperature were studied. Production of 540 MPa Hot Rolled DualPhase Strip at Baotou CSP Plant
Pilot production of 540 MPa hot rolled dualphase strip at Baotou CSP Plant is introduced. 160 t 540 MPa CMn hot rolled dualphase strip was produced by controlled rolling and controlled cooling using laminar cooling and UFC(ultrafast cooling) equipment. The strips have low yield stress, small yield ratio, high elongation, high nvalue and good low temperature impact toughness. No yield point on the tensile curve is observed, the island martensite is distributed among the ferrite grain boundaries uniformly. The produced dualphase steel was used for making beam and frame cover of heavyduty truck at the automobile manufactory.

Effect of Stress on Low Temperature Phase Transformation of T91 Ferrite Heat Resistant Steel
The effect of stress applied at certain temperature on low temperature phase transformation of T91 was studied with Baehr DIL805A/D highresolution differential dilatometer. According to the results of dilatometric measurement and microstructure observation, kinetics of phase transformation was obtained. It was found that the stress promotes formation of martensite and increase of Ms; but the stress applied at different temperature exhibits different effect on Ms: with increase of stress,at 760 ℃ and 650 ℃ Ms decreases, whereas at 440 ℃ Ms is constant at first and increases afterwards. The above phenomena could be accounted for the different inherent phase transformation mechanism: the former is controlled by the morphology of the deformed austenite,the latter is influenced by stress induced martensite transformation.

The DIL402C thermal dilatometer, STA449C thermal analyzer, Gleeble1500D thermal simulation testing machine were used to study the linear expansion coefficient, major phase transformation temperatures, mechanical properties at high temperature of 2Cr13. The effect of these parameters on surface quality of billet and the mechanism of surface depression and crack formation of billet were analyzed, providing theoretical support for 2Cr13 continuous casting.

Effect of Al and Ti Treatment on Microstructure of CoarseGrain HAZ in HSLA Steel
The Effect of Al and Ti treatment on coarsegrain HAZ microstructure in HSLA steel was investigated. The results showed that the inclusions in Al treated steel are mainly aluminum oxides and titanium nitrides. Aluminum oxide and Titanium nitride could not promote the formation of acicular ferrite. Microstructure of coarsegrain HAZ of Al treated steels consists of heavy ferrite in grain boundaries and ferrite side plate. The inclusions in Ti treated steel are Al,Ti,Mg,Ca composite oxides with size in the range of 0.53 μm and titanium nitride. Ti composite oxide could promote the formation of acicular ferrite and microstructure of coarsegrain HAZ of Ti treated steel consists of ferrit in grain boundaries, ferrite side plate and large amount of intragranular acicular ferrite.The size of ferrite in grain boundaries is increased and the amount of ferrite side plate is decreased with the increase of soaking time at the peak temperature. The amount of ferrite in grain boundaries and the size of acicular ferrite is increased with the increase of cooling rate during phase formation.

New Method of Disposal of Waste Plastics at Shougang Group
Nowadays, the cycle of manufacturing and consuming plastic materials has resulted in a serious environmental and economic problem, as called ‘white pollution’ in the world. For this reason, disposal of waste plastics has become increasingly a concern and much efforts for recycling waste plastics have been made. Based on the traditional method of disposing waste plastics by coking process,a new method of cocoking waste plastics and blend coal was proposed by Shougang Group and investigated theoretically and experimentally. The results showed,that the new method not only can increase the content of waste plastics to ≤4% in the charge of coke oven, but also improves the quality of coke if the content of waste plastics ≤2%. The new technology has been proved economical and environmentally friendly to deal with ‘white pollution’.
