A Preliminary Numerical Simulation of Midrex Reduction Shaft Furnace
Based on the mass and energy balance of gas and solid phases, a onedimensional model of Midrex reduction process was developed. The model was able to satisfactorily reproduce the data from Gilmore Steel Corporated. Calculated results showed that, the temperature difference between solid and gas phases is small in the most part of reduction section of Midrex shaft furnace. The reactions are exothermal in the upper part of 1.18 meter in depth. The performance of the reactor was also analyzed under different temperature of reduction gas,gas flow rate, size of iron ore pellet and productivity of the reactor.

Influence of SiO2 and FeO Contents in Charge on Sinter Strength
The influence of composition of charge on sinter strength was studied by means of tumbling test, optical microscopy and Xray diffraction (XRD). The samples were prepared with sintering cup, and the production trial was conducted on Shuigang 65 m2 sintering machine based on the experimental results. It was shown that the SiO2 content has a major effect on the sinter strength. When the SiO2 content was 5.375.67%, the sinter had a higher strength. Both the MgO and FeO contents have some effect on the sinter strength. While the SiO2 content was 4.845.00%, the calcium ferrite was formed by decreasing both w(MgO) and w(FeO) and the sinter strength was improved.

Analysis of AOD Top Lance Blowing Process at Baosteel
It was shown that during AOD refining with side and top blowing the decarburization speed was slower, the oxidation of chromium was a little bit severer and the bath heating rate was slower than expected. Thus, based on the simulation results, the oneoutlet top lance was replaced with three outlet lances. The one outlet lance, threeoutlet top lance with 11 degree inclination of outlets and three outlet top lance with 15 degree inclination were compared in terms of decarburization speed, chromium oxidation rate and bath temperature heating rate. The results showed: 1) With reasonable lance position, the three outlet top lance with 11 degree inclination is the most effective; 2) The one outlet top lance is the worst one; 3) The three outlet top lance with 15 degree inclination is not satisfactory due to unfavorable gas streams.

Investigation on NonMetallic Inclusions in Hot Forging Steels of High Cleanliness
The Nonmetallic inclusions in hot forging structure steels during LF refining of which T[O] was less than 0.0010%,were investigated. It was found that, with high basicity slag and strong diffusion deoxidation, the high Al2O3 inclusions formed by Al deoxidation were transformed into magnesium and calcium aluminates. For the steels with T[O] below 0.0010% after VD degassing, it was difficult to find oxide inclusions in the steel. In high clean hot forging steels, many combined inclusions were found, in which, the central part was MnS, while the edge parts was TiN precipitated on the existed MnS particles.

Research of Lamination on ColdRolled Strip
The lamination or “bubbling” on strip is occurred during cold rolling. The samples were studied by metallorgraphy and electron microscopy. With Scheil equation, the excess oxygen content of steel during solidification was caculated, which causes the precipitation of FeO inclusions at grain boundaries. In rolling, the continuity of steel is damaged causing lamination.Strong deoxidation and protective casting can reduce oxygen content avoid the stratified phenomenon.

Prediction of Recrystallization and MFS of X65 During Production by TSCRD
Based on temperature field simulated with finite element difference method, the 2D microstructure evolution and distribution profile was predicted and a model of mean flow stress with consideration of austenite grain size and recrystallization, and a technology of grain refinement rolling were put forward. There is only a little recrystallization due to low temperature during last several passes of finishing,so the austenite grain size can be refined by increasing reduction on first two passes of finishing or reducing temperature before finishing.

MultiObjective Optimization Design and Application of BackUp Roll Contour for Hot Strip Mill
In order to improve service life of roll and control of strip flatness in hot rolling production,a multiobjective optimization design for backup roll contour was established based on production conditions and strip flatness control theory. Simulated calculation and production experiment showed that contact pressure distribution between rolls is evened; uneven wear of roll body is reduced; edge spalling of roll surface is prevented; and control effect of strip flatness is improved. The optimization roll contour is valuable and worth further spreading.

Calculation of Thermal Stress Affecting Strip Flatness During RunOut Table Cooling of ASP 1700 Strip Mill
A numerical analysis of the thermal stress generated during cooling of hot rolled strip on runout table of ASP1700 was performed by means of finite element program ABAQUS.For studying trend of flatness change during cooling of strip. The results demonstrated that temperature drop at strip edges leads to a residual stress distribution pattern with tensile at strip center and compressive stress at edges. Thus a trend of edge wave formation is observed as proved by the practice of skin pass rolling.A compensation control strategy, named slight center wave rolling, was proposed based on the FE analysis work to compensate the edge wave during the cooling, and adopted on ASP1700. The validity of this control strategy was confirmed by the practice.

Analysis of Long Ear Disfigurement of Plate
In order to forecast the long ear disfigurement of plate with high precision, and correlate parameters of plan view control, on the base of theoretical analysis, the conception of tiny cell was brought forward,a forecasting model of long ear disfigurement was built. Using volume conversation law, the model proved that volume of long ear is formed from the tiny cells at the head, and it is best to use long ear volume at 0.2 times width of rolled piece from the edge as identification index of long ear disfigurement. The identification index then was uncoupled into the product of elongation percentage and length of tiny cells at the head. With quantitative model of tiny cells at the head,a forecasting model of long ear disfigurement was obtained. The model was applied to a 3000 mm plate mill, with good effects.

Effect of Inclusion Size on HighCycle Fatigue Behavior of High Strength Spring Steel
The high cycle fatigue fracture behavior of three heats commercial spring steels 60Si2CrVA were studied by using rotating bar twopoint bending fatigue machine in the highcycle regime up to 107 cycles. The experimental results indicated that there is significant difference in the fatigue properties of steels, with same oxygen content. Further investigation revealed that this difference is mainly caused by the difference in inclusion size. That means, both fatigue life and fatigue strength increase with decreasing inclusion size. For D60, in which the average inclusion size is 44.4 μm the SN curve displays a continuous decline without conventional limit and fatigue failures originated mainly from large oxide inclusions. For A60,which has the smallest inclusion size of about 15.4 μm, all the fatigue cracks except two did not initiate from inclusions but from specimen surface and there was conventional limit. In the case of internal inclusioninduced fracture at cycles beyond 1×106, inclusions were found inside the fisheye and granular bright facets (GBF) were observed in the vicinity of inclusions.

Experimental Study of Ferrite Rolling of a Low Carbon Steel
Low carbon steel strip is produced by ferrite rolling on Flexible Thin Slab Rolling Production Line (FTSR) at Tangshan Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd. The mechanical properties, microstructure and texture of the strip were studied. The results showed that the microstructure of the strip is characterized by full recrystallized ferrite, of about 30 μm in grain size, and small amount of pearlite. Compared with the strip produced by conventional austenite rolling, the yield strength of the ferrite rolled strip was lower by about 20%,with same elongation and strain hardening exponent. The plastic strain ratios were 0.76,0.35 and 0.70 in transverse direction, longitudinal direction, and 45° direction respectively. The dynamic strain aging of low carbon steel is the main reason of low plastic strain ratios value of the ferrite rolled strip.

Investigation on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Low Alloyed UltraHigh Strength Steel
With ThermoCalc software the equilibrium phases of a low alloyed ultrahigh strength steel 30Cr3 for engine case were studied. By mechanical test, transmission electron microscopic(TEM), scanning electron microscopic (SEM) and XRD observation the performance of 30Cr3 steel was investigated. The results showed that at room temperature the structure components of 30Cr3 steel after equilibrium phase transformation are αFe and carbides (MC、M23C6、M7C3). 30Cr3 steel has good hardenability after normalization,of which microstructure is mainly martensite.During tempering εcarbide is precipitated in martensite laths. The tension strength and yield strength of 30Cr3 steel first rise up with a max.Tension strength of 1870 MPa at 250 ℃, then decline with tempering temperature; the impact energy and fracture toughness decline with increase of tempering temperature.

Effect of Secondary Cold Rolling Reduction Rate on Magnetic Properties and Texture of Thin NonOriented Electrical Steel Sheets
The effect of cold rolling reduction rate on magnetic properties and texture of thin nonoriented electrical steel sheets were researched. The results showed that thin nonoriented electrical steel sheets with better magnetic properties could be produced with 55% reduction rate of secondary cold rolling. The portion of unfavorable γtexture components, especially {111}<112> and {111}<110> was increased when the rate of secondary cold rolling reduction was higher than 55%.The thin nonoriented electrical steel sheets manufactured with a rate of secondary cold rolling reduction of 55% had more {100} and Goss texture, and of which P1.0/400 could be reduced to 10.6 W/kg and B50 could reach to 1.68 T.

Study on Reduction of Oxide Scale on BRC3 HotRolled Steel Strip by Carbon Monoxide
Oxide scale on BRC3 hotrolled steel strip was investigated by scan electronic microscopy and Xray diffraction. The results showed that oxide scale consists of outmost hematite layer, intermediate magnetite layer and inner wustite layer. And a small amount of magnetite precipitates in wustite layer. During hightemperature reduction, all iron oxides are entirely transformed into wustite, then reduced by carbon monoxide. Finally a composite of white porous iron and some grey wustite is formed. It was found that the optimum parameters of reduction were:temperature was 750 ℃,carbon monoxide flow rate was 3 L/min and reaction time was 180 s.And the higher carbon monoxide flow rate, the higher reduction rate is.
