Diffusion Between MgO and Hematite During Sintering
In sinters, MgO mainly distributes in ferric phase and reacts with hematite and wustite generating magnesioferrite and MgObearing wustite. In addition, only a small amount of Mg2+ is soluted in silicate binding phase. The diffusion couple consisted of dolomite and hematite fines was used to study diffusion behavior betweem MgO , CaO of dolomite and hematite and the diffusion rate of MgO into hematite by means of optical microscopy observation and EPMA test. The results show that the low melting point substances like CaO·Fe2O3 and CaO·2Fe2O3 promote the diffusion reaction between dolomite and Fe2O3 and the amount of diffused CaO is more than that of MgO. The diffusion rate of MgO into hematite is 17.2 μm/min.

Research and Application of Collection Algorithm for Characteristic Section Image of Sintering Machine PlantTail
The definition of characteristic section image of sintering machine planttail is thoroughly described and deeply analyzed for the first time, two types of characteristic section image and pallet critical value are proposed, and the calculation method of pallet critical value is demonstrated. For 360 m2 sintering machine at Donganshan sintering plant, the disadvantages of existing collection algorithm were eliminated by using, a new algorithm, which is simple, efficient, adaptable and easy to use.By resonable presetting up and down borderlines of the judging area and three simple judging thresholds, the new algorithm can exactly collect characteristic section image for every operation mode, and by presetting minimum average temperature the new algorithm can efficiently eliminate the misjudgment for glow image. Since the system was put into production in Jan, 2007, the rate of exact collecting characteristic section image has been over 95%.

Effect of Temperature and Gas Pressure on Sulphur Capacity of CaOSiO2Al2O3MgOFetO system
The sulphur capacity of CaOSiO2Al2O3MgOFetO slags with fixed slag composition,at different temperature and under different gas pressure was measured using gasslag equilibrium techniques. In Pt crucible, the slag was equilibrated with a mixture of CO, CO2, SO2 and N2 at required partial pressures of oxygen and sulphur. It was shown that , the sulphur capacity of slag decreases with the increase of temperature under constant gas pressure; at a constant temperature the rising of oxygen pressure results in an increase in sulphur capacity.

Thermomechanical Model of Heat Transfer in Bloom Casting Mold
The longitudinal corner surface cracks were occurred at the initial stage of operation of continuous bloom caster at Pangang. Therefore, a thermomechanical model was developed to analyze the heat transfer and the stress distribution of strand in the mold. The heat transfer was analyzed with the steady model and the transient model, respectively. The contact of the mold and strand was taken into account in the mechanical model to treat the air gap formation at the mold corner, and the strain as well as stress of strand were analyzed with thermal elastoplastic model. The calculated results of the temperature of and stress distribution in the strand cast with two different molds show that the corner configuration has a great effect on heat transfer near the corners. When the corner configuration is optimized from 25 mm×45° to 12 mm×45°, the strand temperature becomes lower and the solidified shell thickness becomes thicker, which will reduce the cracking tendency near the corners.

Study on Roll Gap of Slab Caster Based on Solidification Shrinkage
In order to research the effect of roll gap reduction on reducing the centerline segregation of slab, the temperature and solidification shrinkage of a slab were calculated by numerical simulation, the distribution of the solidified shell thickness and solidification shrinkage along the metallurgical length were analyzed, then three sets of roll gap reduction were built, tested and their effects were compared. The results show that the roll gap reduction within 23 segments before the solidification end is effective to reduce the centerline segregation, and the roll gap reduction rate should be a little more than the slab solidification shrinkage.

Simulation Analysis on Formation of Bore Hexagonal Shape of Seamless Tube in Stretch Reducing Rolling Process
Based on the deformation characteristics of seamless tube during stretch reduction,a 3D thermomechanical coupled finite element model was established to simulate the deformation process of tube on 18stand stretch reducing mill. The comparison of finite element analysis results with measured ones indicated that the simulation model is practical and reliable. It was found that the transverse wall thickness distribution is nonuniform and that is the cause of hexagonal bore formation. The model can be used to analyse product flaws and instruct technological design.

Research of Distribution of Friction Force and Displacement Field in Hot Strip During Coiling
In order to analyze the distribution of internal frictional force and determine the least layer number for expansion of coiler, the coiling process was studied with FEM. For strips from 5 mm to 20 mm in thickness, and the layer number from 2 to 5, the internal metal flow in strip and nodes at innermost layer nodes during coiling was studied with relative displacement of strip head as a criterion, and the conditions of no loose winding during coiling were determined. The results indicated that the distribution of frictional force is changed from layer to layer, and 5 layers of strip are enough for stable coiling. The study is useful for improving the metal yield and reducing the wear of auxiliary roller.

Study on the Backup Roll Contour for CSP Continuous Hot Rolling Mill
Several domestic continuous hot rolling mills in CSP (compact strip production) have CVC (continuously varible crown) work rolls and conventional backup rolls. As the CSP production process is different from the conventional hot rolling with less product varieties, widths, and different roll service periods of stands, the wear characteristics of the rolls are different too. Through tracing and testing the backup rolls, it was found that the backup rolls of the 1800 mm CSP continuous hot rolling mill have two typical wear characteristics on different stands, the serious wear of backup rolls affects the controllability of the mill for profile and flatness of products, and increases the roll consumption.Based on theoretical analysis, two new backup roll contours were proposed for two wear characteristics. Both the trial and the FEM analysis proved that the new roll contours have good property of selfmaintenance, and can work well during the whole service period.

Quantitative Texture Analysis of Cold Drawn Pearlitic Steel Wires
Texture of cold drawn pearlitic steel wire was investigated by a method combining modified texture measurement method with orientation distribution function (ODF). The wire was austenited at 1223 K for 0.5 h, then isothermally treated at 296, 773 and 923 K for 0.5 h before cold drawing. The results showed that the <110> fibre texture is mainly gathered on the αfibre in cold drawn wire. The main texture components are {001}<110>, {111}<110> and {110}<110>,and the component {001}<110> is the strongest. Results of quantitative calculation showed that <110> component tends to increase from surface to center at 296 K; The <110>component first increases then decreases from surface to center at 773 and 923 K and has the highest value in the center at 923 K.

Investigation on Structure and Properties of CSiMnCrVNb Grain Refined Steel
For(0.15%0.35%)low alloyed CSiMnCrVNb steels austenite grains of 1112 grade can be obtained by controlling the forging ratio. The abrasive property of such steel was studied. The results show, for low carbon grade, the micro cutting gradually changes into serious adhesion abrasion with the increase of load and abrasion velocity of dry friction. For the steel grade with higher carbon content, whose major wearing form is micro cutting, the pan furrows are wider and deeper with minimal adhesion abrasion and spalling fatigue. Under the condition of dynamic load, the major wear form is grinding abrasion. The alloy of 035% carbon content, which can not only resist the cutting of quartz particles, but also can reduce the spalling, has better structure, performance and perfect abradability.

Influence of Tempering on Microstructure and Mechanical Property of Dual Phase Steel of CSiMn Alloy System
The influence of tempering temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a dual phase steel was studied. The results of mechanical test show that elongation is improved by tempering below 250 ℃, but the change of other mechanical properties is not obvious. After tempering above 300 ℃, elongation does not increase much, but the yield strength is increased with decrease of tensile strength, workhardening and bakehardening capacity deteriorating the mechanical properties of the steel. The results of SEM and TEM analysis indicate that the variation of microstructure is not changed obviously after tempering below 250 ℃,the morphology of martensite is lathshaped and a large number of unobstructed dislocations is observed in ferrite and around martensite islands. By tempering above 300 ℃, martensite decomposes obviously, making the boundaries illegible, and precipitation of carbide particles in the islands. In ferrite the density of dislocation decreases, and there are many coarse precipitates on dislocation lines. The decomposition of martensite and decrease of dislocation density in ferrite are the main reasons of deteriorating the mechanical properties of dual phase steel.
