Abstract：In recent years, improved requirement for large-section billet promotes technology development and product upgrades of iron and steel industry. In this investigation the reliable technology application of instrumentation and automatic control were applied for extra-section round bloom casters. These applications contain steel weighting, tundish continuous temperature measuring, slag detection, mould level detection and control, mould cooling water detection and control, secondary cooling water detection and control, dynamical secondary cooling model, automatic control system configuration and so on. The properties and characteristics are expressed for different devices. Practice of technology application above mentioned is proved effective on enhancing quality, improving productivity, and ensuring safety.
